If Tentacool, were to sting you, would your friend have to pee on the area of contact?  Probably not, because apparently Tentacool can control your mind with a touch!  Remember that one episode way back when?  Yeah.  Damn, these guys don’t play.  

For Tentacool who I dub the “Zubat of the sea”, I wanted to focus on coming up with an interesting visual style that was unlike any I had done so far.  Granted, I try and do that each time, but this one I wanted to be a lot more noticeable right off the get go.  One thing I always curse myself for during working is rendering the pieces too far in that remove my intended art style I was going for.  This might happen when I begin to shade and really make the Pokemon sit in an environment, if that makes sense.  

For example, this one doesn’t look like it is surrounded by anything and looks to be a stand alone piece, which I think gives the Pokemon and the work I put into creating it on display.  I used lines to build up the body of the Pokemon, which gives a very neat and distinct look, something slightly trippy that reflects Tentacool’s hidden powers I mentioned earlier.  The ruby crystals both get swallowed into the body of Tentacool thanks to the marks and are also able to stand out due to the contrast of colors.

I left Tentacool’s overall design intact and by building up the form in this way, created a connection to the water typing by creating imagery that resembles flow waves.  This was unintentional but fit perfectly, which I think adds a nice extra layer to the style that is depicted.  Not sure what exactly to call it, but it got the job done and allows me to continue on this journey.
